Another angle of Brush Island down near Bawley Point, New South Wales.
It was calm evening, and with no wind the grass tussock’s were perfectly still. Plus I really like the orange lichen on the Granite.

Sand Mines, New South Wales

Another stitch from my time away.
This cool location is called Sand Mines Beach which is just south of Bawley Point right next to Brush Island.
I assume it is called Sand Mines from the rocks layed out in the sand.

The evening I was there it was spitting rain, and not a breath of wind and it was very muggy. A few days prior when I was at this location a Hercules came flying down the coast, it scared the shit out of me as it was only about 70m above the beach.

I have found a series of my shots when I tilted my lens up at 5-10 degrees came out with the ocean bowed in the middle. I assume it is due to the full frame. Its like I need a 60mm or 70mm. This is the information I found on dpreview: Distortion on full frame is about 1.3% barrel; this is towards the high end for a 50mm standard prime, and has the potential to be visible in real-world shots.

The reason I tilt my lens up is to capture the more sky if it is sexy enough on the day,
I have attached a example below, click on it for full res.
Please let me know if it is the full frame.

Unfortunately I haven’t had the time to get out and shoot, so here is another shot from my time up in Mollymook Beach, NSW,

This shot is taken down at the surf lifesaving club looking north, a very popular location for tourists, plus pre dawn the beach is packed with walkers, joggers etc, so that they can go to work early and knock off at 3:00pm to go for a surf. They should have a “FEST – Far Eastern Standard Time” for coastel dwellers.

This was about 10 shots onn the 5d mkII, 50mm 1.4, no filters, f/13, 1/160 sec.

Spring is in the air

Spring  is finally here after a horrible bleak winter, Today it reached 20 degrees and 24 tomorrow.
The lawn and garden will get a trim tomorrow as it is starting to look like a jungle.

We now have our first batch of Australian Wood Duck ducklings, well they were actually two lots yesterday, but these guys have seemed to have kidnapped the other lot overnight.
Last year I noticed that a pair “Adopted” two extra lots bringing their total brood up to 24 ducklings.
There must be some pride power in stealing as many ducklings as possible. Or some may say it’s climate change!!

Another installment from my recent trip to Mollymook NSW.
This capture was taken just south of this cool place called Bawly Point, the nearest beach is called Sand Mines.

It’s a beautiful headland with some great orange lichen on the granite rocks.

The local aboriginal people called Brush Island ‘Mit’, the day I was there I did this dodgy self guided interpretive walk that apparantly takes you to the biggest aboriginal midden in southern NSW. All I saw was coastal vegetation and these nice interps signs that I didnt want to read in fear of getting kidnapped by child sized coastal ticks. That evening I gouged a tick out of my hip with a carving  knife with tweezers absent. When i told my brother the next evening, he wasnt delited as he made his breakfast with that knife.

If the NSW NPWS are reading this, get rid of that walk and position the signs around the rocks on the headland, and try and kill that giant hare is nearly stood on.

This was about 8 images on the 5D mkII with the 50mm lens, manually stitched, stupid PTGUI.

Another shot from my last day at Mollymook, as I said, I was snapping anything and everything, some quick catchup photography.

This is a busy little street next to the surf lifesaving club, and a neat little precinct.

About 8-9 shots with the 5D mkII on the 50mm 1.4, no filters.

What a ripper match today with the Bombers getting up over the saints, my voice box is worn out.
This and ANZAC day and beating the blues twice, does it get much better?
That’s what I’m talking about!!!

On my last day of my holiday cloud started to appear.
So I hurridly rushed around snapping anything I could, a few more to come.

This bay would be an awesome location for scuba diving or snorkelling with crystal clear waters.
Also this is a popular location for fishing for Black Drummer and Salmon.

Just above this location is a Day Spa, Accommodation and restaurant www.bannisters.com.au
It is a lovely location which is just out of the way, so it is nice and quiet.

There was also a cool little Australian Fur Seal laying on the rocks on day I was there.

About 8 shots, 50mm, Canon 5D mkII, .3 Lee GND.

This was a 2 image vertical stitch I did on the same morning as tthe panorama.
It was a great location, and there are a lot more compositions that could have been done if I had the time.

whiting

My Whiting, caught on a 2.0 hook and a soldier crab, I defied all odds of catching a whiting.

Well I am home after my recent trip to NSW, I haven’t got many shot to show from it as the weather was too perfect but will upload some over the coming weeks.

I have been builing myself up for yesterday’s drive, I left at 6:15am and got home at 6:10pm. 12hrs and 991km on the road. I didn’t speed once, plus the primitive state of NSW slowed me down along the Hume Road – it’s neither a freeway or highway so it’s just a road.

Few things I learnt:

  • Australian and NSW taxpayers are getting ripped off with the Hume Freeway project with poor efficiency. The entire project is a con and should have been completed 20 years ago.
  • NSW people must overtake all Victorians even if they are abiding by the speed limit.
  • NSW people may overtake people over double lines during speed restricted roadworks.
  • NSW people may overtake people via the bikelane if there is oncoming traffic
  • Reverse angle parking was devised by bank robbers for quick getaways.
  • The only police I saw on my whole trip covering 2500km were in Victoria, did not see one police car in NSW, must be on holidays.

I had a great time up there with some fantastic weather, some good fishing

Dolphin Point – NSW

dolphin

Yesterday I went down to Dolphin point about 10 minutes south of Mollymook for a pre dawn shoot.
In the days prior to this shoot I did a bit of scouting, and it paid off with some great cloud out at sea.

You can see a great relection from the top part of the cloud on the surface of the ocean which looked aweome.
I have not invested much time in touching up this image and just wanted to get it on the blog, so there probably may be a few stitching errors that need healing.
The waves were a bit unpredictable, I only got a bit damp from the waist down, the beachside bloggers probably can read the ocean a bit better than a country boy.

Again the days continue to be cloudless reducing the opportunity for good shots, but I am enjoying the sunlight during the days, a vastly different contrast to that of  Western Victoria at present.
Went fishing before at a place called Nuggin Head, no fish but endless opportunities for shots, also this place has not been hammered by quality landscape photographers, so there is probably a great niche in the market.
