Here are a couple of happy snaps I took out on the Moora Moora Reservoir the other day of an old school mate.
The Moora Moora is found right in the middle of the Victoria Valley, and is a small reservoir that holds about 5500ml, presently it is at about 75% of capacity.
It is great habitat for many species of birds, usually fish too, however it has dried up twice in the last 2 summers which would have affected its biodiversity.

I’m not usually a fan of man made structures, but this is more of a wetland than a lake, plus it has the most awesome backdrop of the Serra Range.

I picked up my new kayak a few weeks back from Geelong, it is a Hobie Revolution.
This is not a conventional kayak, it is pedal powered using the patented mirage drive system.
With a rudder, pedals, rod holders and plenty of stowage, it is ideal for lake and estuarine fishing, one of my favourite past times.

Also with the pedals, the Kayak makes photography much easier, then the camera can be stowed in the water proof stowage.

I intend to get to the south-east coast this summer, from Croajingolong to Ulladulla/Mollymook.
Next year I might try and get down to Mallacoota for a few weeks of fishing.

I purchased the Kayak from WestVic Kayaks & Kampers in Geelong, the guys there were wonderful and provided great customer service.

At home yesterday I heard a big machine rumbling up the valley and it was Hems-4, VH-VAO.
And it started to land just near my house which was a bit odd, as usually the paramedics would come to Halls Gap.
It turns out they were doing a talk at a conference, a very expensive little talk, then take off, and back to Warrnambool, Im not sure Brumby would like that cost to the state. Last week this new chopper was used to winch out a 28yo rockclimber from Mt Abrupt after his support gave way, he broke both arms.

I just quickly snapped these images from my house with the 70mm-200mm at f/2.8.

The left is at 40mm and the right at 17mm shot with the 17-40mm f/4 on the 5D mkII body.
I may have used a polariser, but I cannot remember.

The Djab wurrung and Jardwadjali name for this location is ‘Buruga’ meaning breaking or broken off. I am not sure what the context of the meaning is, however most aboriginal place names are a reference to a body part, therefore this could be a missing body part.

I was lucky this day, I looked out the window and saw some great clouds forming so I took the drive.

Beehive Falls is one of our nicest looking waterfalls in the Grampians, but also is hard to photograph as there is not much moving space.
After some good winter rains, the falls is flowing nicely, Beehive Falls is found on Mud Hut Creek, and its tributaries lie on Briggs Bluff (Budjun Budjun).

Budjun Budjun is the Jardwadjali name for Briggs Bluff and its meaning [phlegm, matter, running sore].
Gar is the Jarwadjali name for this mountain range meaning [nose like].
From my perspective I believe that Budjun Budjun may be a reference to Beehive Falls and the phlegm a reference to the water flowing. Also Beehive Falls is right at the northern end of the nose shape.

It was a great walk in from Roses Gap with heaps of orchids in flower.

A Picture of Gar or the Mt Difficult Range, this is a good depiction of the nose shape.
Many Aboriginal names of mountains are a likeness in appearance to a body part.

Today I had a great day out in the Grampians National Park looking at our beautiful spring flowers.
There is an absolute profusion of colour from bright whites, rich yellows, deep purples to vivid greens.
All of the orchids are going great guns and so are many other varieties of plants.

The 72nd Annual Grampians Wildflower Show is under way, but it still doesn’t beat getting out there and finding the flowers yourself.
I got my latin back into order, and I had forgotten how much I used to like doing this. The trusty old 40D came out with me today leaving the 5D mkII at home for a rest. I used the 50mm 1.4 with a 12mm extension tube and a 580ex flash.
